Puttur: A 42-km padayathra of the Congress was flagged off by District In-charge Minister U T Khader on Monday, January 14. Named “Rastriya Heddari Poornagolisi, Janara Jeeva Ulisi” (Complete National Highway and Save Lives), the padayathra, led by former minister Ramanath Rai, was organised to protest the abrupt halt in the highway road work between Bengaluru and Mangaluru near Nelyadi. It is expected to end in B C Road on January 16.
Addressing the gathering, Khader called out the central government for “utterly” failing in the development and for “trying to hide the scams.” “We will form a central government led by Rahul Gandhi and we will select a capable Congress MP from the district, in the upcoming elections and change the district,” the minister said.
Ramanath Rai, who also spoke on the occasion, said that the Modi-led central government are puppets in the hands of Ambani, Adani and the like. “Development has completely been neglected in the district over the past 30 years in this Lok Sabha constituency. The development of the national highway that was started under the UPA government has completely been sidelined,” he stated.
