Coastal Students Bring Laurels in II PUC Exams

Mangalore: Two students of Dakshina Kannada district brought lawrels by securing first rank in the state, in the II PUC examinations conducted by Karnataka Pre-University Education Board.  They share their joy with News Karnataka.

Akshay Kamat is a student of Canara Pre-University College who bagged first rank in II PUC science.  He is the son of K Umesh and Jayasri Kamat couple.  He said, ‘My parents did not pressurize but always supported me in my studies,’ said Akshay.

‘I will not forget the support of my colleagues, lecturers in my achievement,’ said Akshay who secured 594 out of 600 marks.  When this reporter queried Akshay, how he could achieve this?  He replied, ‘I was devoting 5-hours daily for studies.  The conducive environment at my college and at Expert Coaching Institute helped me in my achievement,’ said Akshay.

Akshay is a badminton and table tennis player who played in taluk level competitions in both games.  But, he would keep away from games when the exams were nearing. 

He had already appeared for JEE examination and the results will be published by May 7.  He has hope of similar achievement in JEE exam and hope to pursue electronics and communication professional course at NITK.

Sooraj, II PUC student of Alvas College is the topper in commerce, by securing 593 marks out of 600.  He is the lone son of Santosh Hegde who is employed in National Insurance Company and Prasanna Hegde, postal employee, residents of Borkatte in Karkal taluk.   

He has done his early schooling in Christ King School, Karkal and secured 96.5 percent in SSLC and continued to excel in studies.  He has proved that the concentration during the lectures and a lot of hard work can achieve one marvelous feat. 

He acknowledges the support of Alvas Education Foundation chairman Dr Mohan Alva, lecturers and colleagues in his achievement.  He aspires to pursue study in chartered accountancy and do B Com attending evening classes.
