Mangaluru: Union Minister of Human Resources and Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that if the proposed new education policy is implemented properly, India will certainly become the ‘Vishwa Guru’ of the whole world.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a new Central Research Unit at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Suratkal on Tuesday, February 25. Pokhriyal said, “The proposed new education policy, designed to strengthen the nation, is based on India’s ethics and value system. It aims at strengthening the nation and making life meaningful for every citizen. Though India has over 1000 universities, 45,000-degree colleges, 16 lakh schools and over one crore teachers, and 33 crore students which is more than the population of the USA, it has not achieved success in imparting value education so far.”

“However, the proposed new education policy is expected to bring a positive change in the life of the people and if it is properly implemented, our India will definitely secure the title of ‘Vishwa Guru’,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pokhriyal promised to sanction Rs 40 crores from the Central Research Facility (CRF) fund for the infrastructural development of NITK. He also promised to take all appropriate measures and fulfil the demands of NITK.

NITK toll gate should be shifted

Prior to the event, NITK Director K Umamaheshwar Rao shed light upon problems pertaining to the toll plaza which is located near to NITK. “To ensure utmost security, especially for girl students of NITK, toll plaza must be shifted to another place. Besides that, the announcement made by the HRD Ministry that a third branch of Kendriya Vidyalaya will come up on the NITK campus should materialise immediately,” he stressed.

The newly-inaugurated Central Research Unit comprises high-end research equipment imported from Germany, Japan, and the USA among other countries.  The cost of the research equipment is estimated to be Rs 80 crores. CRF President Prof Uday Bhat informed that the newly-inaugurated research centre would help research students do their research with accurate results. This research centre will not only help the students of NITK but also students from other educational institutions.

The HRD Minister also laid down a foundation stone at the site where new hostel facilities are being constructed for both boys and girls at NITK. NITK Board of Governors Chairperson Prof K Balaveera Reddy presided over the programme.
