CCB sleuths nab man for calling in hoax bomb threat at MIA

Mangaluru: The CCB police, on Wednesday, arrested a person for perpetrating a hoax bomb threat call to the Mangaluru International Airport.

According to report, earlier in the day, it was reported that a person had called former airport director Vasudev and claimed to have planted a bomb at the airport. After being alerted to the threat, the airport authorities, along with the Bajpe Police, scanned the entire premises but did not find any trace of an explosive device.

Soon, the police traced the caller’s mobile number and the accused was arrested from Mudradi in Karkala.

The operation was carried out by the CCB police with the help of the Bajpe and Hebri Police.

The arrested accused has been identified as Vasanth Sherigar (33), a resident of Thundugudde in Karkala. The accused is said to work at a hotel is and is also said to be mentally unstable.

It can be recalled that on January 20 this year, a small bomb was planted at the Mangaluru Airport by a man later identified as Aditya Rao. The bomb was safely detonated at an open ground in Bajpe and two days later, the accused surrendered before the Bengaluru police.
