CCB police arrest youth from Belthangady for extortion

Mangaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly indulging in extortion activities.

The arrested accused has been identified as Rasheed Kundadka alias Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Belthangady.

According to police sources, the accused had collected Rs 4 lakh from a person for withdrawing the name of an accused in the murder of Mutthasim alias Thaslim, who was involved in a jewellery theft case. It is alleged that Rasheed had initially demanded Rs 20 lakhs claiming that he had contact with police officials.

Police sources also informed that he had created a WhatsApp group called ‘Kanaka Group’ and added the numbers of many police officials, politicians etc. and misused many numbers.

Based on a complaint, the operation was launched by CCB inspector Shivaprakash R Nayak, PSI Kabbalraj and others. After arresting the accused, the CCB police handed him over to the Mangaluru East Police Station.

A case has been registered in this regard and an investigation is underway.
