Mangaluru: Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, during his visit to the city on Tuesday, January 21, alleged that the bomb found at the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday was part of a mock drill by the city police.

It can be recalled that an abandoned bag containing a live bomb was found near the ticket counter at MIA on Monday, January 20. After the CISF alerted the authorities about the bag, a bomb squad took the explosive to the nearby Kenjar grounds and disposed of it with a controlled explosion using C4.

Addressing the media, HDK, who was in the city to assess the situation after the bomb scare, said, “There has been a lot of unrest in society after the BJP came to power. During my 14-month rule as Chief Minister, these kinds of incidents did not occur. Why has Mangaluru turned into an epicentre for such activities?”

“When the bomb was detonated at a deserted place, I only saw smoke. It was like watching a mock drill. Is the government trying to scare the people?,” the JD(S) leader asked.

Further, he said, “These kinds of drills will have an adverse impact on the economic growth of coastal Karnataka.”

When asked for a response to Dakshina Kannada district BJP president Sanjeeva Matandoor’s statement that he should undergo a brain mapping test, HDK said that he was ready to undergo any test. “Let everyone, including Modi and Amit Shah undergo a brain mapping test. I am not scared of any such test as I always speak the truth,” he said.

He also expressed his suspicion of the role of some organisations behind the bomb scare saying, “I believe that some organisations have been trying to create misunderstanding and violence between two communities in order to execute their hidden agenda.” He further urged the government to reveal the truth behind the incident through a proper investigation.
