Mangaluru: Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi has been re-elected as the president of Buntara yane Nadavara Mathru Sangha (BANMS). He defeated Sureshchandra Shetty with a margin of 2,598 votes.
While Rai bagged 4,791 votes, Shetty got 2,193 votes.
Though it was expected to be a tough fight between these two prominent leaders, Maladi managed to defeat Shetty with a huge margin.
It is said that there are two factions inside the association – one belonging to Rai and another belonging to International Bunts’ Welfare Trust President and educationist A Sadananda Shetty. It can be recalled that both convened separate press conferences in the city two days ago and resorted to allegation and counter-allegations
Among the total 22,800 voters in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts, only 7,337 turned up to cast their votes.
