Mangaluru: Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Sunday, recovered six pieces of unclaimed gold that was concealed in a pipe under a passenger seat. The gold pieces weighed a total of 671 grams and are estiamated to be worth approximately Rs 33.80 lakhs, an AIU statement informed.
The gold pieces were recovered from an Indigo Airline flight from Dubai to Mangaluru during a search. After the search yielded results, the flight proceeded to Hyderabad.
The officers suspect that someone was tryinng to smuggle the gold pieces into the country. An investigation into the incident is underway and the Customs officers are on the look out for the culprit.
