Mangaluru: “The student organisation, ABVP should educate the people about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) as efforts are being made all over the country to mislead the public about the amended law,” said Deputy Chief Minister Dr  C N Ashwath Narayan on Friday, February 7.

Inaugurating the three-day-long state conference of the ABVP (39th edition) at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall, he said the implementation of the CAA has been a dream for several decades and that even the senior Congress leaders favoured its implementation. “However, in order to gain political benefits, leaders in Opposition are strongly opposing the implementation of the CAA. Those who oppose the CAA will never be patriots and they are anti-nationals. The students’ organisation ABVP, which has been raising its voice against injustice, should enlighten the public about the CAA,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the DCM informed that pursuing education is the only way for our country to attain success in all fields. “India is lagging behind in skilled manpower when compared to some of the developed countries like Germany and Japan. When the BJP government came to power in the Centre six years ago, the skilled manpower was only 2 per cent. However, it was above 90 per cent in Germany and Japan. As the Narendra Modi-led Union Government has been focussing on skill-oriented education, we have increased the percentage. Engineering and polytechnic colleges in the state have been asked to set up a youth empowerment cell so that students can actively participate in the development of the community and undertake social responsibilities through the application of technology. The cell can guide the students about their responsibility and their future,” he added.

ABVP national organising secretary Ashish Chouhan informed that the ABVP has been producing strong leaders for national politics. “The contribution of the ABVP is immense in nation-building and also in social service,” he said.

Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof P S Yadapadithaya, the chief guest at the programme said, “Don’t answer your critics through words. But, it should be in words. For achievers, the sky is the limit and hard work is their weapon. The ABVP is famous for motiving youngsters and it shows them the right path to attain greater heights.”

Presiding over the programme former governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya said, “The ABVP is the nodal agency for the welfare of India. An achiever is not someone who accumulates wealth for himself. Such achievers deserve to be called ‘looters’. The real achiever is that person who pays back the society, what he earns in his life.”

Meanwhile, Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba was felicitated on the occasion.

ABVP state secretary Harshan Narayana compered the programme. Reception committee president K C Naik welcomed the gathering and general secretary Shantharam Shetty proposed vote of thanks. ABVP state president Dr Allamaprabhu Gudda,  Reception committee convener Keshav Bangera and others were present.
