Mangaluru: In the ongoing case of the National Crime Investigation Bureau impersonators, investigations have revealed that a total of 14 major cases of extortion and cheating have been filed in six different states against Sam Peter.

The accused is currently in police custody for allegedly indulging in extortion and cheating while posing as the director of the National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB).

Commissioner of Police P S Harsha told reporters here on Saturday, August 24, that Sam Peter uses different aliases to evade arrest while also indulging in illegal activities.

“The primary investigation has revealed that Sam Peter has used as many as 12 different aliases like Peter, Rajesh Robinson, Roy Jacob, Sam Peter, Rahul Peter among others. He had obtained two passports from Kerala and Odisha under the name Rajesh Robinson and Sam Peter respectively. He was in touch with the most of the criminal and extortion gangs operating in Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Zarkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. The Interpol wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had issued a red corner notice against him in the year 1998,” he informed.

Why did Sam Peter come to Mangaluru?

Investigations have revealed that Sam Peter came to Mangaluru in order handle two major cases. The first pertains to Dubai Shareef, an international gold smuggler, whose gold (worth Rs 10 crore) was seized at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru a couple of months ago by the Customs Department. Shareef was cheated by two Mangalureans, namely Girish Rai and Imithiyaz, who promised to help him release the seized gold from the Customs Department and took around Rs 1.70 crores from him. When Shareef did not get his gold back, he approached Sam Peter with the help of advocate Muzafar, to questioned Girish Rai and Imthiyaz.

Two Mangaloreans, Abdul Latheef and G Moideen, who are associated with Sam Peter, took the responsibility of questioning Girish Rai and Imthiyaz. Sam Peter was in town to check the progress of this case. His team had planned to kidnap Girish and Imthiyaz and recover the Rs 1.70 crore they took from Dubai Shareef.

The second reason for his arrival in Mangaluru was to settle the civil dispute of two religious leaders in Udupi. Ramachandra Nayak, the proprietor of Kalpana Lodge in Udupi who has connections with Sam Peter, allegedly asked him to settle the civil disputes of two religious leaders. However, before he could execute his plans, the Mangaluru police nabbed him and seven of his associates on August 16.

It can be noted that, when rumours spread about Sam Peter’s involvement in settling the civil dispute of two religious leaders belonging to the Gowda Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) community,  leaders of the GSB community approached Commissioner of Police P S Harsha two days ago and demanded that a proper investigation be conducted in this regard.

Harsha informed that the police would interrogate Sam Peter further in order to gather additional information about his involvement in different cases.
