Mandya: Vairamudi Brahmotsav at Melukotre which will be held between March 19 and 31 is going to be a simple affair. The decision was taken at the preliminary meeting conducted to oversee the festival headed by deputy commissioner S. Aswathi.

The visiting devotees from outside the taluk are banned. On March 24, the crowning ceremony of Lord Cheluvanarayanaswamy will be held and this sees devotees thronging in thousands. In the wake of this and following government orders on March 12 the curb is in place, informed DC Aswathi.

“For darshan, the devotees have been allotted two entrances and after thermal screening, they would have to take a seal if they test negative. At a time only 100 devotees can enter the temple premises and in celebrations not more than 200 devotees can take part,” she said.

She added, “Brahmotsav will be held between 3 am and 4 am and it has been ordered to end it by sharp midnight. Also apart from regular priests and staff extra workers will not be allowed and also there will be curb on their group gathering. Staying put at night is also curbed. There will be no prasadam and food distribution as well no hotels around temple will be open too.”
