Mandya: A day after she was criticised for visiting the BJP’s Mandya district office, Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh visited the Congress Nagamangala block office today, on Friday, October 11. She stayed in the office for over an hour and held a discussion with local Congress party leaders.
According to sources, Sumalatha informed the Congress leaders that she had visited the BJP office as a thanksgiving exercise. “Both Congress and BJP supported me. So it is my duty to say thanks to all. Congress leaders need not bother about such things,” she said.
She also clarified to the Congress leaders that she intends to remain as an independent. “People elected me because I am an independent candidate. Now there is no question of joining any party,” she said.
Her actions come as a major relief to the district’s Congress party leadership which was under fire from JD(S) leaders for attempting to help Sumalatha win the Lok Sabha elections.
