Students, teachers feted for achieving success in PU exams despite Kodagu floods

Madikeri: The Pre University Education Board Deputy Director G Kenchappa appreciated the achievement of the students of the district who secured good results despite last year’s natural calamity.

He was speaking during a felicitation programme organised by the Pre University College Lecturers’ Association for the second PUC students and lecturers of colleges that passed with 100 per cent in the district. The event was held at the auditorium of St Joseph’s PU College.

Due to the heavy rains and the subsequent calamity that occurred in the district last year, it was difficult for teachers to even conduct classes for the students. But in the days following the calamity, the teachers and students put in a lot of efforts and have managed to retetain the third rank in the state in terms of pass percentage. “In the coming days, the district should reach the first place by imparting high quality education,” said the Deputy Director.

Nowadays, students from rural areas are giving a tough competition to students from private schools, which is a moment of great pride, said Kenchappa. He also urged the government to make appointments to many PU lecturer’s posts lying vacant in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Kodagu District Principal’s Association president K M Bhavani said that the students should develop a competitive spirit to cope with the current trend in the field of education and participate in competitive exams and become an example for others in the society.

Principal of St Joseph’s PU College, Sr Shobha said that if the students have an aim, with hard work they can be successful.

At the end of the programme, the second PUC students and lecturers of the PU colleges that scored a 100 per cent pass percentage, were felicitated. Retired PUC lecturer H K Devaraj was also felicitated on the occasion.

Lecturer’s association president Philip Vas presided over the program.  Association working committee president T Hemanth Kumar,Association chief  secretary HJ Nagaraj, treasurer HR Sarvotham, Vivek, secretary from Virajpet and other office bearers of the association were also present at the program.
