Revenue Min R Ashok visits Kodagu dist; Asks teams to finish rescue op at earliest

Madikeri: Kodagu district in-charge Minister V Somanna and Revenue Minister R Ashok visited the district on Sunday. The two also visited Talacauvery region, where the massive landslide took place, in which the Chief Priest of Talacauvery temple and four others have gone missing.

MLA KG Bopaiah, who has been at the landslide spot over the last two days, supervising the rescue operations, gave details of the incident to the Ministers.

Ashok said that there is a need to deploy more people and finish the rescue operation within two days. He said that five teams should take up the work in three shifts.

NDRF, SDRF, police, fire personnel, Home Guards and locals can all work together to finish the rescue operations, said the Revenue Minister adding that the centre has allocated Rs 310 cr for natural calamities.

He said that a video conferencing has been scheduled on Monday with Prime Minister Modi in connection to tackling the natural calamities. During the meeting the PM will be asked to release additional funds for the state, he said.

V Somanna said that the state government is doing all possible attempts to help Kodagu district, which is facing floods for the third consecutive year.

MP Prathap Simha said that Rs 5 lakh relief is being given to those who have lost their houses in the calamity.

DC Anis Kanmani Joy, SP Kshama Mishra among others were present.
