Madikeri: In a reckless move by the City Municipal Council (CMC), a toilet has been constructed adjacent to a huge well in Kananda Bane of ward number 20, from which drinking water is supplied to hundreds of households. Former CMC member K G Peter has expressed his concern that the construction of the toilet will pave way for contaminated water in the well.
Peter has filed a complaint with the deputy commissioner in this regard urging not to allow anybody to use the toilet under any circumstance.
“The toilet has been constructed for the use of the CMC staff who supply water. This has been constructed in an unscientific manner. There are all the possibilities of the contaminated water from the toilet entering the well, as it is only 4 feet away. Water from this well is being supplied to areas including Kannanda Bane, Dechoor, Putani Nagar and Raghavendra Temple surroundings. It is necessary to preserve the well as it is the only source of water in Kanandabane,” stated Peter in his complaint.
He has accused the CMC of constructing the toilet even after the public opposing it. “I had also opposed the construction of the toilet near the well when I was an active member in the council. But the council has constructed the toilet without paying any heed to me or the public,” added Peter in his complaint.
“Considering the health of the public, action should be taken against the use of the toilet here and the building should be used for some other purpose. A protest will be staged with the support of the public, in case the toilet is used,” stated Peter.
