Madikeri: The Kodagu District Muslim Jamaath Committee had called for a protest rally on Tuesday, December 24, condemning the implementation of the CAA, NRC as well as the death of two youths in the Mangaluru police firing incident.
Working president of the Kodagu District Muslim Jamaath P M Qasim said, “We will bow down in respect only to the constitution framed by Dr B R Ambedkar and not to the ones who try to manipulate or change it. If all the Muslims and Dalits of this nation stand united, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah can be dethroned.”
Amin Mosin of SDPI said, “CAA and NRC are against the secular fabric of the nation. Every citizen of this country shall stand united and deny them by holding peaceful protests. PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have said that the Act will first be implemented in Karnataka. If it is implemented in the state, then be prepared for retaliation. In Mangaluru, the police have fired on the protesters and innocent people on the way to their home. They have killed innocent people. Stringent action must be taken against the police officers involved in the firing and they should be suspended.”
“We will not submit the documents for CAA and NRC,” he added.
Columnist Shivsundar said, “CAA and NRC are against the Indian Constitution. Both will have an impact not only on Muslims but also on Hindus. Hindus and Muslims have built this nation together and fought during the freedom struggle. By implementing CAA and NRC, PM Modi and Amit Shah have directly back-stabbed the Muslims and indirectly, Hindus. The need for a second freedom struggle has emerged.”
Meanwhile, the protesters handed over a request letter to Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Sneha to be submitted to the President of India.
Several Congress and JD(S) leaders had participated in the protest rally.
