Maoists spotted on foothills of Thadiyandamol mountain

Madikeri: The people of Thadiyandamol mountain region of Yavakapadi village in Madikeri taluk, Kodagu claim to have spotted Maoists in the area. Unidentified people, suspected to be Maoists have reportedly entered Yuvakapadi village, which is on the foothills of the mountain and took away rice and a mobile phone from a house.

The incident took place at around 10 AM on Thursday, April 25, when KK Anitha, wife of Kariappa was in her house along with her children. Anitha, who came out of the house to speak to her husband over phone saw a woman dressed in a salwar and a overcoat come out of a nearby coffee estate accompanied by a man.

The woman grabbed the mobile phone from Anitha and threatned to kill her if she informs anyone of their presence, and fled the scene disposing the phone. Later the duo visited the residence of Rajesh in the village and have taken some rice.

Anitha’s husband and in-laws had gone out for work when the incident took place.

Circle Inspector Siddaiah, Napoklu Police Sub Inspector Renuka Prasad and Asst. SI Devraj rushed to the spot to conduct and an enquiry.

Chief of Yuvakapadi village Farmers Association, Kudiyara Muthappa has expressed serious concern regarding the incident.

The Anti Naxal Squad and Kodagu District Police are searching the area for the two naxals. Combing operation has been intensified in the area.
