Madikeri: “When the PWD department engineers begin the Makuttu road repair work, all the forest officials must co-operate,” said Kodagu Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) Heeralal.

Chairing a meeting with several officials related to the forest department on Saturday, January 18, Heeralal said, “Those trees which have fallen on the bridges due to the recent floods will be cleared with the help of forest officials and the road repair work will begin soon. The repairs at Mandalpatti will be carried out at the earliest with the co-operation of the officials and the electricity issues will be sorted out with the help of the assistant forest reserve officials. The title deeds will be issued to people residing in hadis. Houses and other basic facilities will be provided to them. The police officials must also co-operate and if they don’t, kindly bring it to my notice.”

Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy said, “The roads connecting Virajpet and Kerala have issues during the rains. The bridge construction work near Perumbadi has stopped abruptly. If this work is completed, it will benefit those travelling to the Kannur International Airport. The roads in Mandalpatti should be repaired soon or else the road connectivity issues will worsen. The hanging bridge at Nisargadhama has to be set right as the place gets a lot of tourists. The tribal people living in Nagrhole and other areas should be given title deeds and other infrastructural facilities. An order for the construction of houses for the tribal community has already been passed. The forest officials must co-operate.”

Director of Nagarhole Tiger Reserve Narayanswamy and ITDP department officer Shivakumar urged the forest department to provide basic infrastructural facilties to the hadi and tribal communities. Heeralal has assured that the title deeds that were sent back will be inspected and a legal look will be taken into the matter and the issue will be resolved.

Several officials were present during the meeting.
