Madikeri: As the nation celebrated “Police Commemoration Day” on Monday, October 21, as a sign of respect for the brave police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country, the Kodagu Police also paid their respects.

District and Sessions Court Judge Veerappa Veerabhadrappa Mallapura, Superintendent of Police Suman D Pennekar, DySPs Jayakumar, Muralidhar, Circle Inspector Medappa, officials of women police, fire fighters and others paid their respects at the Police Memorial.

Judge V V Mallapura said, “I’ve seen with my own eyes the sacrifices made by the police personnel, because my father has served in the police department.”

“Our jawans guard our nations’ borders, likewise the police protect the rest of the country. Amid tremendous pressure, they protect the people and public property. There are several instances where police personnel have stayed away from their home and family for days together, in order to maintain law and order,” he added.

He said that the police personnel play a major role in establishing peace in the society and nation on the whole.

SP Suman read out the list of police personnel who were martyred.

She said, “Around 292 police personnel throughout the country and 12 from our state have sacrificed their lives for the country.”

Under the leadership of S Rachaiah of the District Armed Reserve Police, three rounds were fired in honour of the police martyrs.
