Madikeri: The state forest department, Karnataka State Science Council joined hands with Club Mahindra in the cleanliness drive at Madikeri on November 15, aimed to safeguard environment and keep the surroundings in villages and cities clean.
In the first phase, the drive will extend from Madikeri to Kushalanagar via Suntikoppa and in the subsequent phases Somwarpet, Virajpet and Gonikoppa towns will be covered according to Deputy Conservator of Forests Edukondalu.
Tourists visiting the district in large numbers litter the town at will and a lot of plastic waste can be seen strewn around. The drive has been organised to create awareness to protect the environment and improve ground water levels.
When all stake holders join hands, clean surroundings becomes a reality, opined convener in charge of the cleanliness drive, T G Prem Kumar.
According to Prem Kumar, Gaddehalla area in Suntikoppa will be covered on December 16 followed by Suntikoppa, Kodagarahalli, Hosakote, Anekadu forest range, Basavanahalli and Guddehosur villages enroute to Kushalanagar.
Resource assistant from Club Mahindra, Naveen said, 40 staff members from Club Mahindra were actively involved in the cleanliness drive which is a part of Swatch Bharath Abhiyan (SBA).
