FMS CID arrest man on charges of selling Star Tortoise

Madikeri: The CID police, Forest Mobile Squad, has detained a man on charges of trying to sell Star Tortoise, an endangered species of the reptile, found in dry areas and scrub forests in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The accused identified as Thimmaiah from Katakeri, was produced before the court on Monday, March 18.

Reportedly, the man arrested was domesticating the tortoise for the past three months and was looking for a potential buyer. The team detained him following a tip-off.

CID Assistant Sub Inspector Subash, Forest Mobile Squad members Lingaraju, Nannaiah, Mohan, Rajesh, Trishool and Pemmaiah carried out the operation.
