Madikeri: An eight-year-old boy was killed while his grandfather was injured in a tiger attack at Bellur under Srimangala here in Kodagu district.

The deceased has been identified as Rangaswamy. His grandfather Kencha (50) is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru. It is said that Kencha was at the plantation he was working at while the boy was playing nearby.

In the last 15 days, three lives were lost in tiger attacks in the district. These incidents prompted farmers’ association to stage a protest by blocking the Ponnampet-Kutta road at Bellur and demanding authorities to shoot the tiger. Tahsildar Yoganand Hudikeri has clamped Section 144 till Tuesday March 9.

The forest official, who came to the spot have assured that efforts are being taken to capture the tiger and its movements were being tracked for the last 10 days. The tiger will be shot as a last resort, only if it tries to flee.
