Madikeri: Although the state is facing heavy rains as predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Kodagu district is facing continuous drizzle from the past two days, due to which the people of the district are irked.
Continuous drizzle in Madikeri, Virajpet, Somwarpet, Talacauvery and other areas have resulted in filling the Harangi Dam for second consecutive time in the year.
Usually the dam goes fill only once a year, but this time the dam has reached its full capacity for the second time.
Even though the continuous drizzle from the past few days have irritated the people of the district, it has helped the farmers of Kodagu, Mysuru and Hassan in agriculture purpose as the water from the dam is being released in the month of August, September, and October through canals.
The maximum capacity of the Harangi Reservoir is 2859 feet. Due to continuous rains it has now reached 2858.24 feet. The inflow of water this time is 1354 cusecs when compared to last year, which was only 310 cusecs. Similarly, the outflow of water, this year to rivers and canals are 750 and 500 cusecs, respectively, which was 1400 cusecs during the previous year.
