Madikeri: Accusing the City Municipal Council commissioner of not utilising the available funds for basic amenities, the City Congress Committee President K U Abdul Razak has demanded the official’s transfer.

In a press release, he alleged that no measures had been taken for the development of extensions that were destroyed in last year’s floods in Kodagu. Normal life is disrupted in Indiranagar, Chamundeshwarinagar, Mangaladevinagar and other areas since the roads, canals and sewers were damaged, he said. Though Rs 2975 Lakh funds are available, none of it has used for development works and also the percentile funds under SC/ST welfare, Razak lamented.

“The roads between Ranipete and Kodandarama temple are completely ruined but the commissioner is apathetic to the issue despite repeated requests. It is not possible to walk near the KSRTC bus stand since the gutters in the vicinity overflow during rains. Though the tender process is over, works have not begun. The work on the wall of the sewage canal is of substandard quality. The city is full of anomalies but the commissioner is blind to them. Nothing ever moves unless people protest”, Razak charged

When people visit CMC office, only a handful of staff is present and when the visitors enquire, the only answer is the staff members have gone DC office, he said.

“Every official process including distribution of khatas or applications is delayed by over six months and the only answer commissioner has is they would be done. The CMC staff also doesn’t listen to the commissioner. He is not taking any action against the collection of excessive taxes despite the relevant media reports”, he alleged.

A commissioner who does not even have suitable information about the 23 wards, has been appointed as disaster relief team’s nodal officer, he ridiculed. Abdul Razak has also demanded a surprise raid on the CMC office.
