Madikeri: In retaliation against the Centre’s move of passing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019 in the Parliament, the district unit of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged a protest against the bill by tearing copies of the bill on Wednesday, December 11.
The agitators staged a stir against the bill at the Gandhi Circle.
Speaking on the occasion, former Naxal and thinker Sirimane Nagaraj criticized the Centre and said, “The Central government is strategically dividing the country on the basis of religion under the guise of the CAB. The bill has been tabled to target the Muslims. They are trying to make this country ‘Muslim-free’. Any bill that is passed on the basis of caste and religion is anti-national.”
SDPI district president Abubakar said, “Passing the CAB bill in the Lok Sabha is against the Indian Constitution. By implementing this bill, one community will not be able to avail Indian citizenship. If this comes into existence, violent protests will be observed all over the nation.”
SDPI state committee member Ameen Mohsin and other party leaders were present.
