Madikeri: The Government Model Higher Primary School constructed and donated by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru, under the CSR Scheme 2016-17, was inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat CEO K Lakshmipriya and BEL HR Director K M Shivakumaran on Monday, November 25.
Addressing the gathering, Shivakumaran said, “BEL has played a vital role in the nation’s defence system. As Kodagu is known for contributing immensely to the defence sector, we wanted to help the district, which is why we have built a school. By this, we have stressed on the importance of education.”
“Children who study in government schools should be provided with the best facilities, quality education and an apt study environment. Every individual should work towards this mission,” he added.
Former director of the State Education Department G R Basavaraj said, “Although the state government is providing good facilities to government schools, the private firms should also come forward and help/contribute to its development. This building was made possible because of the earlier ZP CEO Charulath Somal, who requested BEL to construct a model school.”
“Due to the competitive world, government companies have to compete with private companies. At this juncture, BEL should help build more schools like this,” he added.
Meanwhile, K M Shivakumaran and G R Basavarj were felicitated, along with Zakir Hussain, Gururaj, Bhuvanedra Swamy, Raja Rai and B K Shashikumar.
Several officials from the education department were also present.
