ADC Dr Sneha directs officials to curb usage of tobacco in public places

Madikeri: Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Sneha directed the concerned officials to install billboards stating that smoking is prohibited in public places, in government offices of the district and taluk levels.

Chairing the quarterly review meeting of the District Tobacco Prevention Cell, she said, “Departments like education, tourism and health should work hand-in-hand to bring the tobacco usage under control.”

She directed the officials of the Department of Public Education and Pre-University Board to communicate information to all the schools and colleges about the law applicable to the control of the sale of tobacco products within school and college limits. She also directed the concerned officials to create awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco usage.

Giving directions to the officials of the tourism department and the Tahsildar, she said, “A caution board stating that the use of tobacco is banned, should be placed in tourist spots. The tobacco prevention cell, under the leadership of the Tahsildars, shoudl work effectively to curb tobacco use.”

Meanwhile, Department of Health and Family Welfare officer Dr K Mohan submitted a report concerned to his department along with Dr Shivakumar of the District Tobacco Prevention Cell. He also highlighted about the actions being implemented by the cell towards the prevention of tobacco usage.

Several departmental officials were present at the meet.
