Koppal: BJP state president, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and transport minister, Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi violated the new traffic rules in Koppal city. The local police, however, did not act against the two out of fear.
According to sources, both the leaders were in Koppal to attend a party meeting and had arrived in cars without wearing seat belts. The police did not act against the leaders out of fear of retaliation.
The locals have complained that, for the past few days, the Koppal traffic police have been levying a fine of Rs.1,000 on people found not wearing seat belts. "Why were these two leaders exempted from paying traffic fines," a local resident asked.
