Koppal: In a heart-wrenching incident, five students of an Other Backward Classes hostel in Bannikatte area of the Koppal taluk were electrocuted after the wooden pole they were holding touched a live wire.
“It was flag post used to hoist the flag on Thursday at the hostel. It accidentally came in contact with the live wire while they were removing it, electrocuting them all at the spot,” said Koppal police.
The hostel is run by the social welfare department.
The deceased are identified as Mallikarjun (class X), from the Metagal village, class IX students Kumar of the Hydernagar village, Basavaraj of the Lingadalli village, Devaraj of the Halageri village and Ganesh, a class VIII student of the Lachanakeri village.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh.
