Kodagu: After people from neighbouring states were seen crossing the border in the last few days in search of liquor, Deputy Commissioner Charulatha Somal banned the sale of liquor in villages bordering Kerala.

According to the order issued by Deputy Commissioner, liquor sales are restricted at standalone outlets, bars and restaurants, clubs, and hotels within five-kilometre radius of Karike and Kutta villages which shares border with Kerala.

DC has also warned those who break the ban will have to face legal action under the Disaster Management Act and the Epidemic Diseases Act.

In light of the high number of cases in Kerala and Maharashtra, the Karnataka government made it mandatory for all persons entering the state from these states to have negative RT-PCR certificates.
