Forest officials capture tiger at Bellur village after 20-day search op

Kodagu: The officials of the forest department captured a male tiger which was attacking the cows in the Bellur village under the Hudikeri panchayat limits on Tuesday night.

The officials had been carrying out a combing operation to find the tiger for the past 20 days using tamed elephants. Locals who spotted the tiger in a coffee plantation on Tuesday alerted the forest department officials.

Officials captured the tiger by using tranquillizers and sent it to the Kergalli wild animals’ rehabilitation center in Mysuru.

This tiger was on the prowl in the area for the last three months and had eaten several cows that were tied in cowsheds. Initially, the forest department kept had placed a cage to capture the tiger, but it managed to evade the trap.
