fishing M 2842020Karwar: The local fishermen have alleged that the fishermen from Goa have been indulging into banned method of light fishing, that too in Uttara Kannada district, even as the lockdown is in place.

The state government had banned light fishing in the state, but the fishrmen from Goa have been fishing using this unscientific method.

The local fishermen have said that they will be left with very little fish catch once the lockdown is lifted as the Goan fishermen are violating all rules and still venturing into sea to fish.

They have also said that the fisheries deprtment is turning a blind eye towards the illegal fishing by Goan fishermen.

The local fishermen have informed Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner about the issue and said that the banned method of fishing is being carried out from Karwar to Nethrani.

The complete ban on fishing during lockdown was recently relaxed and traditional fishing has been permitted now.
