Karwar: Condemning the act of miscreants destroying the Chigalli dam located at Mundgod town of Uttara Kannada district, residents along with farmers staged a protest, here on Tuesday, August 13.
Member of Parliament Ananth Kumar Hegde who had reached the protest spot was pressurized by the protestors to take stringent action against the miscreants.
It can be recalled that the Chigalli check dam was damaged by miscreants on Monday, August 12 morning, which had resulted in massive amount of water flooding towards the agricultural lands destroying crops worth lakhs of rupees. The surrounding areas of the dam too had been submerged.
The farmers said that the dam had been damaged by the people who had encroached its surrounding land and that the miscreants must be caught immediately and take stringent legal action must be initiated against them.
MP Hegde who listened to all the demands of the protestors assured them of taking stringent action.
Earlier, the protestors had protested in front of the Mundgod Police Station demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants.
