Karwar: The fishermen community of North Canara district has called for a bandh in Karwar and Bhatkal on January 16, in protest against the expansion of the Karwar harbour under the Sagara Mala project.
As part of the bandh, fishermen will stop all activities including fishing.
It can be recalled that Karwar is on edge over the last few days with local fishermen communities holding a series of protests against the proposed expansion plans of the Karwar harbour.
Several fishermen organisations held a protest on Tuesday, January 14, to express their anger. During the protests, many resorted to splashing ink on the portraits of MP Anant Kumar Hegade and MLA Roopali Naik.
The fishermen say that the project will destroy their livelihood.
