Karwar: Life became chaotic in some parts of the Ankola Taluk in Uttara Kannada district when it witnessed flooding due to two days of the monsoons. More than 50 houses were flooded with rainwater, damaging the electrical and electronic appliances.

The four laning work of the highway was underway in these areas due to which, the stormwater drains in the area were clogged with debris. This caused the water to enter the houses in the area, damaging property and other household items.

The people were forced to abandon their homes and move to safer areas when the water levels rose to considerable heights.

The locals have alleged that highway widening contractor IRB’s unscientific work and improper stormwater drains led to the flooding of the residential areas.

They have sought immediate action by the district administration regarding the issue as the IRB was earlier instructed to clear the drains before the onset of the monsoons to avoid any flooding in the area.
