Karwar: Former minister Pramodh Madhwaraj has said that Fisheries Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary must visit the fishermen as a Fisheries Minister to understand their problems. He should not visit the fishermen as Minister of Port.
Madhwaraj had visited the fishermen to show solidarity in their protest against the proposed Sagarmala Project and said that the Minister has been fed with wrong information about the project.
"The expansion is happening because the Minister has been misled. The project will tear apart the fishermen community, leaving the community in dire straits. I will oppose every project that is against the interest of the fishermen," Madhwaraj said.
He also had a telephonic conversation with the Minister wherein he urged Poojary to make sure such a project, that affects the fishermen is not implemented.
He also attacked Sagrmala Project CEO Ujwal Kumar Ghosh and said that the officer had harassed the fishermen even when he was the DC of Uttara Karnataka district and he continues to do so even in his new position.
