Karwar: Police seized counterfeit clothing worth Rs 50 lakhs being sold under the name of top brands on Saturday, July 6.
The raid, led by PSI Santhosh Kaikini and team, was conducted on Jeevan Garments located at Haladipur’s Kudabail in Honnavar town.
The police had received several complaints regarding Jeevan Garments producing clothes without authorization from Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, Bengaluru. The garment unit has been accused of preparing clothes under popular brands such as Allen Solly, Louis Philippe, Van Heusen and several others that come under the Aditya Birla Group.
A case was filed in this regard and Jeevan Garments owner, Janardhan C Naik was also nabbed.
Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited Public Relation Officer (PRO) Avaneeth I and Services Manager Raghu R had filed a complaint at the Honnavar Police Station alleging that the garment unit had suffered loses and that the people who bought the clothes were also fooled.
They also accused Jeevan Garments of attempting to bring down the brand value by tarnishing their image and also breaching the proprietary policy they got from the respective brands.
