Karwar: The villagers of Kinnara village of Uttara Kannada district celebrated the annual fishing festival by fishing in the backwaters of Kali river today i.e., on Friday, May 17.

The locals participated in large numbers in this festival and caught a lot of fish. The villagers participated in this festival with full excitement with no gender discrimination.

The people who catch fish on the day of the fishing festival are not regular fishermen. But they become fishermen for one day.

This fishing festival will be celebrated on a day in the month of May every year.

No one knows how the fishing festival started in this village. The villagers are following a tradition started by their ancestors for many generations. In this region of the Kali backwaters, fishing takes place only once in a year during the festival. Therefore the villagers end up catching a large number of well-grown fish of different varieties.

The villagers decide a day in the month of May for the festival every year. The backwaters will be flooded with fishing enthusiasts on the day of the festival. People of all ages and genders from the village and outside, flock the place with small nets and participate in the festival of fishing.
