District administration of Uttara Kannada completes preparations for LS polls

Karwar: Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency with 15.50 lakh voters will vote in the phase III of the LS elections on April 23. The district administration has completed all its preparations to conduct free and fair polling in the district.

The polling staff have already completed their training and were designated respective duties in the polling stations.

The KSRTC buses have been arranged for their transportation to the designated polling booths.

The women polling booth staff were accommodated in their respective legislative assembly constituencies as per Election Commission guidelines.

A total of 11 ‘Sakhi’ polling booths with blue set up have been arranged. All the ‘Sakhi’ polling booths will be managed by the women polling staff.

Two polling booths have been arranged for the differently abled voters and these polling booths will be equipped to assist the voters while casting their votes.

To encourage voting among the Siddi tribals of the district in Yellapura and Haliyala, one tribal voting booth each were set up.

The contesting candidates were given permission to erect their booths 200 meters away from the polling booth.

The candidates were permitted to appoint one polling agent each in every polling booth. Election officer Dr Harish Kumar confirmed that the candidates were briefed about the rules of appointing polling agents in details.

In Uttara Kannada district till April 19 after the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct Rs.26.25 lakh cash, 32.68 thousand litres of illegal liquor, gold jewellery, vehicles and promotional materials were seized. A total of 25 FIRs were filed and 133 cases were registered under the Excise Act till now.

All the political parties have to stop their campaign at 6 pm on April 21. During the last 48 hours before the polls, no party will be allowed to campaign in public meetings or on electronic media. The respective parties have to get the prior written permission from the Election Commissioner to advertise in any print media like newspapers during the last 48 hours of the polling day, informed the district panchayat CEO Roshan.

According to the Election Commission guidelines 364 polling booths were identified as sensitive in the district. The security of 63 sensitive booths was assigned to half units of CPF. Webcasting facilities arranged in 96 sensitive booths, in 198 sensitive booths micro observers were appointed and in 52 sensitive booths videographers were appointed said Senior Superintendent of police Vinay Patil.
