Karwar: Considering the fact that 40 per cent of the population of Bhatkal has people who have travelled abroad, district administration has decided to impose the prohibitory orders in Bhatkal sub-division from March 24 to 31.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, addressing a news conference on Monday said that though one person from Bhatkal has been tested positive, the region need no worry about this case because the person had not come to Bhatkal.

“He hails from Bhatkal. However, he lives in Dubai and had reached Mangaluru International Airport, where he was screened and sent directly to District Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru. People of Bhatkal need not worry about the case,” the DC.

He further added that considering demography of Bhatkal, the people who have history of travel abroad are being identified and tested.

Pressing for the need to maintain social distancing, the DC said that people must voluntarily stay indoors and not resort to violating the rules.

He said that during the lockdown period only essential commodities and services will be available.
