Two get death sentence for sexual assault and murder of student in Sringeri

Bengaluru: Three years after the incident, two youth were sentenced to death for sexually assaulting a student and killing her in Sringeri of Chikkamagaluru. Judge Justice Umesh Adiga pronounced death sentence on Saturday noon.

On February 16, 2016, Pradeep bin late Manjappa, 32, and Santosh bin Ramu, 26, both residents of Vaikuntapura village near Sringeri murdered a girl around 2 pm by dragging her inside the thick forest. DNA tests and chemical analysis proved that they were the accused.

On Saturday district principal judge Justice Umesh Adiga sentenced the two to death.

VG Yalagere was the public prosecutor in this case. Speaking to the reporters, Yalagere informed that this is a historic judgement. “Now this judgement will be sent to High court for the final approval. Then these guilties will be hanged,” he stated.
