Chikkamagalur: A 30-year-old tusker was electrocuted in the Bhadra Tiger reserve of the district on Friday night.

According to the forest department officers, the tusker was electrocuted in the Haruvanahalli village near Lakkavalli. “The tusker died when it came in contact with the electric fencing constructed by a local farmer with an illegal electric connection. A case has been registered against the farmer,” informed the officers.

“Tens of farmers have constructed electric fencing illegally in this region. They have connected them to the electric poles directly without violating all the norms. This is resulting in the deaths of wild animals. The department will soon write to the state government in this regard,” informed officers.

It can be recalled that recently, a female pregnant elephant died after falling into the Bhadra backwaters.
