Chikkamagaluru: Rain and flood furry exposed the reality of the villages in the Malnad region of the state. On Sunday, the Chikkamagaluru district administration was left red-faced following the news that a family was forced to shift the body of an elderly in a coracle across river Bhadra.

According to the Mudigere residents, Holekudige village of the taluk is surrounded by river Bhadra and there is no all-season road connectivity as the demand for a bridge across the river has not yet become a reality over last 30 years. The villagers need to cross the Bhadra river in a coracle.

On Saturday, Lakshmamma, a 70-year-old resident of the village died in a hospital in Mangaluru. The body was brought to the banks of river Bhadra in an ambulance, but since there is no connectivity, the body was ferried in a coracle to her house.

As the news spread the district administration assured of looking into the issue and take measures to construct a bridge.
