Chikkamagaluru: For the last few days, the journalists association here had been requesting the visitors to cast their votes and then come back to enjoy their holidays.

On Thursday, April 18, they stopped the vehicles of the tourists on the various roads of Chikkamagaluru and checked for electoral ink marks. They noted that around 200 visitors had come to Chikkamagaluru without voting. Among them, the IT-BT employees from Bengaluru were the highest in number.

When they were asked why they had not voted, many of them did not even know which elections were going on and many others did not know the election dates.

The journalists association honoured them with a shawl and garlanded them with aadhar card, ration card, PAN card, debit and credit card photocopies and appreciated their ignorance and apathy towards voting.

The association members also warned the tourists that they would be sent back if they came next time without voting. Few local people criticised the journalists’ association’s actions.
