New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh’s nomination rejection case hearing was carried out by the special court of National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has rejected the plea, here on Wednesday, April 24.
The special court has mentioned that it cannot reject her nomination and said that it had no special powers to stop her from contesting the elections.
Earlier, a petition was filed by a father who had lost his son in the Malegaon blast of 2008. He had challenged Pragya Singh contesting for LS polls.
However, the court, in its verdict, has mentioned that the person who had filed the petition was at the wrong forum and that the issue had to be looked at only by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
As Pragya Singh’s lawyer Prashant Maggu and petitioner’s lawyer had a detailed debate, Maggu argued before the court that it was purely a hidden political agenda. He said that there was no clear intention to fight the case by the petitioner.
“The petitioner has mentioned that whatever Pragya Singh had said were lies, but what was the lie is not mentioned”, Maggu said.
He called it to be a ‘well- designed application’.
On the other hand, petitioner’s lawyer mentioned before the court that there was no hidden political agenda. The petitioner had lost his son in the Malegaon blast and he wanted justice.
He argued that Pragya Singh was all well and had no health issues as she had participated in campaigning at several places. He said that she was misguiding the court giving false health reasons.
Meanwhile, the NIA court has also mentioned that the bail was given by the same court and that nothing could be done in this regard by the court, but fight it out with the ECI.
Sashvi Pragya Singh will be battling against Congress candidate from Bhopal LS constituency Digvijaya Singh.
