Chennai: A Muslim couple got married at the venue of an ongoing protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act on Monday, February 17.
According to a report by PTI, Sumayya and Shahin Shah arrived at the protest venue at Old Washermanpet in north Chennai and were welcomed by the people gathered.
The couple, the bride dressed in a bright red saree with prominent zari work and the groom dressed in marron, were married by an Imam, who introduced them to the gathering, whilst an Indian flag fluttered in the background.
After having been active in the anti-CAA protest that has been on at Old Washermanpet in north Chennai from February 14, and been dubbed as “Chennai”s Shaheen Bagh”, the couple decided to get married at the venue after the elders agreed to the same.
Soon after a short wedding ceremony, the couple held an anti-CAA placard that read “No CAA, NPR, NRC” and joined the others in shouting slogans against the “contentious” law.
