New Delhi: A matrimonial ad, termed by many on the internet as ‘sexist, extremist, casteist’ and ‘the best’ (sarcastically), has gone viral for being uniquely behind the times.

In the ad, “Dr Abhinao Kumar, BDS… (presently not working)” is looking for a Brahmin woman to be his bride.

According to the ad, Dr Kumar, an unemployed dentist wants “any very fair, beautiful, very loyal, very trustworthy, loving, caring, brave, powerful, rich, EXTREMELY PATRIOTIC TO INDIA WITH A KEEN DESIRE TO INCREASE INDIA’S MILITARY AND SPORTS CAPABILITIES, an extremist bus compassionate, an expert in child raising and an excellent cook, Indian Hindu Brahmin working girl from Jharkhand or Bihar” to be his wife.

Additionally, the hopeful groom says that “SAMPURNA KUNDLI MILAN AND 36 GUNAS MATCHING MUST’.

While genreally benine, the matrimonial section of the newspapers sometimes contains at least one of such sexist and casteist ads and this latest version is not something new.

However, Twitterati wasn’t very accommodating of the various ‘demands’ and expressed their disapproval in ways that are quintessential of Twitter.

“Sab kuch ladki se hi expect karna hai ya khud kuch karoge.. khud paani ka gilaas utha ke pi lena bass,” wrote one user.

“Presently not working But wants everything. Confidence level- Manoj Tiwari,” wrote another.

One user, Rajesh Ranjan @pappuranjan21 claimed to have spoken to the man in the ad. “I texted this man. He replied me with his gibberish. He openly says he needs a son and he is ready to abort a girl child. Can someone take an action against him. I’m ready to provide the proof, [sic]” he wrote.

Another Twitter user chose to see the bright side in the ad. “‘Expert’ in child raising !! Aren’t we missing the only positive thing about this ad? It’s an ad for single mom with kids.. [sic]” they wrote.

Sure there are plenty of such ads, in newspapers and even online, however, we are in 2020; we should be much more open-minded.
