Light candles to show solidarity during COVID-19 crisis at 9 pm on Sunday: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday morning urged people across India to switch off their lights and hold candles, lamps and mobile flashlights at 9 pm on Sunday, April 5, for 9 minutes in a nationwide show of solidarity amid a lockdown to fight coronavirus.

“On April 5, Sunday, at 9 pm, please switch off all the lights in your house and each person should stand with a candle, lamp or mobile flashlights in your hands, on your balconies for 9 minutes,” PM Modi said asserting that none must gather on roads and do this within the confines of our homes.

“Maintaining social distancing is the most important thing to do. The only way to break the chain of coronavirus is to maintain social distancing,” he said.

The PM had previous brought in Janata Curfew on March 22 ans during this, he had urged the entire nation to clap for the medical tems battling the COVID-19. However, people had gathered out on streets while applauding for the medical teams.

This is the third time the PM has addressed the nation since the coronavirus pandemic became a cause for serious concern in India.

During his second address he had announced the total national lockdown from March 24 onwards.

India has more than 2,000 coronavirus cases, including 53 deaths.
