New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is no stranger to controversy and has been caught smack in the middle of many political storms during his tenure. Recently, Kejriwal sparked another Twitter storm on Wednesday, March 20, when he posted an image on the micro-blogging site seemingly bearing a Swastika symbol.
In the image, there are two figures painted on a wall- one carrying a broom (the symbol of AAP) chasing another, whose figure resembles a Swastika.
The image was supposedly sent to the Delhi CM, as he explained in the caption attached to the image saying, “Someone sent this.”

The Indian Twitterati did not take too kindly to the insinuation of the image. They explained that the Swastika is a Sanskrit symbol related to the Hindu, Buddhist and Jain religions. As said by Twitter user Advaita (@AdiShankaraa) in a reply to Kejriwal’s post, “Swastika is sacred symbol of Hindus (including Buddhists & Jains) representing Sun & prosperity. (sic)” The user accused the minister of sharing a “Hinduphobic cartoon” instead of condemning it and asked if the AAP wanted “a Delhi in which Hindus are thrown out using brooms.”
Many BJP leaders also spoke out against the Kejriwal’s tweet.
After the post blew up, the AAP clarified that the symbol in the image was that of the Nazis and not the Hindu Swastika. This, however, has not done much to placate the netizens.
