Hyderabad: A mechanical engineer has introduced an innovative idea of manufacturing petrol from used plastic, a process which he says is ‘plastic pyrolysis.’
Prof. Satish Kumar (45) from Hyderabad, has founded a company which is registered with the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises.
News 18 has quoted him saying, “The process helps recycle plastic into diesel, aviation fuel and petrol. About 500-kg of non-recyclable plastic can produce 400 litres of fuel. It is a simple process which requires no water and doesn’t release waste water. Neither does it pollute the air as the process happens in a vacuum.”
Reportedly, Kumar who is producing 200 litres of petrol on a daily basis out of 200 kg of plastic in his company, has converted 50 tonnes of plastic that cannot be recycled into fuel, since 2016. However, the fuel which he is selling to local industries for Rs 40 to Rs 50 per litre, is yet to be tested for usability in vehicles.
